Trails Collective Weekly rundown | January 22, 2021

Weekly Rundown Video Version

On this end…a good week of running. Thankfully my knee just needed a week off. This past week I’ve put 50 miles into the North Face Vectiv Infinite, a brand new release which the North Face kept a tight lid on. Look for my review next week.

I also released this week a head-to-head comp of some of the top trail runners in the game. Check out that video and article on the Trails Collective Channels, and come armed with data next time you come across someone asking which shoes have the grippiest rubber. See who took the win, who surprised me, and who, well, better just take that next creek crossing pretty slow.

Whose Got the Grippiest Outsole Rubber

In tonight’s TC Live Interviews Series, Ellie connected with Chris Dunn, founder of Acidotic Racing (http://www.acidoticracing.com/) and Ascend Endurance Coaching (http://ascendendurancecoaching.com/)

In other Media:

CULTRA Episode 111 was a follow up with Shan Riggs and Callie Vinson. Definitely check out the episode for a dive into their Cross Country journey, particularly in the context of 2020. https://cultratrailrunning.libsyn.com/111-shan-and-callie-please-let-me-know-if-you-have-a-good-episode-name

Results

January 16th and 17th:

Waterfall 50k:

The Waterfall 50k was run by 37 of the VHTRC crew this past Sunday. A great winter option in the Massanutten Mountains overlooking the Shenandoah Mountains. It looked like a beautiful day to be on the trails.

Sassquad Trail Running’s Frosty Fat Sass,

The Frosty Fast Sass was 3.1 miles, 3hr and 6hr format runs based at South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, NJ. The event modified to semi-virtual format with a marked 3.1 course but multi day window for runners to get out and the hours in. https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=80681

Sassquad Trail Party Director Kim Levinsky was able to connect us with Sarah Zieden-Weber, a Frosty Fat Sasser who had a great day on the trails for a window into Sassing. Take it Sarah!

PA:

Rick Martin, 7h 47m for the 38.5 mile Cumberland Valley on the AT Out & Back (rim-to-rim-rim), lowering the prior mark by 30 minutes. It’s always entertaining to check out the elevation profile of Rim to Rim courses. That’s some stout single climb and descend pitches!

Aaron Keckley, a first mark of 2h 6m set for the 14 mile Quemahoning Reservoir Trail, lowering the existing unsupported mark by 5 minutes.

NY:

To take us out, a window into what was an incredible effort from a few friends this past Friday in Beacon, NY. A burley climb and an incredible effort. For the Trails Collective, I’ll catch you next week, and Jay Lemos, take us out.
