Age Record on the AT
MJ Eberhart, with a trail name of Nimblewill Nomad, at age 83 breaks the record for oldest individual to hike the AT
Shane the Trail Dog
A pretty great thing…Shane, owned by an individual who lives adjacent to the Nittany Loop in State College, is a dog trained to find and guide potentially lost hikers, and becomes a great companion for those hiking or running the loop.

This challenge consists of 9 peaks Catamount, Bear Den, Baxter, Big Crow , Hurricane, Pitchoff, Van Voevenburg, Mt Joe and Cobble Hill. Stone Cat 50k in Ipswich, MA – Clip from Rachel Bainbridge
Stone Cat is another classic Northeast event, using 10 mile mixed trail loops in the Willowdale State Forest, and dating back to 2001. COVID disrupted the annual runnings, otherwise it would have been their 20th. Of 162 finishers, Devin Jones took the overall win in 3:59. Top woman on the day, setting a new CR, was Rachel Bainbridge in 4:26. Rachel was moving and pretty great to see a new CR set on a classic event course. Here to cue us into the event and day is new women’s CR holder, Rachel Bainbridge.

Batona Trail Races 33m and 55m in Ong’s Hat, NJ – Clip from Dave Gilbert
Batona comes in as one of the most scenic events in NJ according to the Trails Collective. They saw 70 finishers in the 55 miler, and 105 in the 33 Miler. Records fell with Matthew Vira and Carley Bean ran hot in the 33 miler, both establishing new men’s and women’s course records in 3:50 and 4:59. In the 55, Nigel Bates and Amy Paige also established new course record marks in 7:39 and 10:16. Taking us deeper into Batona is an individual who’s gone full in on trail and ultra, racing a pretty crazy amount in short amount of years, and who has history at Batona, Dave Gilbert.

The View 25k – Hyner, PA – Clips from Mason Coppi and Natalie Rosamelia
In PA, the Trail Dogs, an entity consistently turning out some of the highest entrant numbers and a pretty awesomely active trail community, put on the View 25k. This year saw 282 finishers covering their signature course sections and pitches with Mason Coppi, one of the newest fastest short-distance trail runners in the NE, edging out David Hedges by 2 minutes for a win and new course record of 1:55. That mark is over 20 minutes under the prior course record. The top 4 were under that prior mark. For the women the indefatigueable Meira Minard took the win in 2:49. And, also awesomely impressive, was the finish by Natalie Rosamelia of not just the View, but a 25k series. Here to provide us their Views, Mason Coppi and Natalie Rosamelia.
